Ancient Building Blocks

5000 year old Skara Brae may be the oldest building blocks in existence. Truly amazing! A creative inspiration.

Skara Brae is certainly fantastic, but I believe that the oldest habitation site in Northern Europe is even further out on the Orkneys on Papa Westray. It is called the Knap of Howar, and uses the same wonderful flat stone construction technique as at the younger Skara Brae.

The Orkneys are magnificent! Wish I were with you!

Just beautiful... I can almost see the people entering, stirring the fire, sitting down to share their meal, and tell tales into the dark of the night...
