Skara Brae is certainly fantastic, but I believe that the oldest habitation site in Northern Europe is even further out on the Orkneys on Papa Westray. It is called the Knap of Howar, and uses the same wonderful flat stone construction technique as at the younger Skara Brae.
The Orkneys are magnificent! Wish I were with you!
Just beautiful... I can almost see the people entering, stirring the fire, sitting down to share their meal, and tell tales into the dark of the night...
